If you ever wondered what the hell happened to the proposed IRS unit in the Mustang? Well if you’re an IRS snob like myself read this article.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I think Jason Torchinsky referenced this in a post about solid axles a few years ago, but this is a good article to read on a lazy Sunday anyway.

Kinda glad they didn’t use that. It looks half-assed, like an attempt to put IRS on a chassis not built for it.

I wonder if you can take a Termi IRS and slap it under it.

They did it with the Sn95 chassis. It was half-assed (twisted drive shafts) but it proved that the mustang could be a IRS equipped car. I don’t think the engineers on this project did a bad design on the aluminum intensive IRS.

Not to say the people who were tasked with doing that did a bad job, I just think the best bolt-in IRS system isn’t going to be as good as a car built from the ground up with IRS in mind.

SN95 and S197 are different chassis. I wouldn’t be surprised if some adapts one to a S197.

Well you can take the IRS from the Termi and have it go into a Fox Body no problem...or so says Matt Farah.

Matt is right. The SN95 and fox chassis are indentical. Only difference is the floor pan and external features of the sn95.

I use to have a built 5.0 and it sadly cornering is my thing. As you can imagine bumpy turn made for some near death, I’ve also never driven a car with such bad snap oversteer and that is really good at nothing in the handling dept.

Back long ago I was able to take my Uncles new 99 cobra for a rip. It felt so far ahead of the 5.0

Ford taking so long to do this = why I don’t own a ford anymore.

The solid axle felt like shit, UTTER SHIT, and it produced just as bad of performance. What a piece of garabage, with those joke rear helper shocks. BAHHHH.

THe sad reality is the mustang up to the first 4.6’s was no more advanced than a 1964.5

Shit chasis, shit suspension, shit brakes, good basedengine in shit form so complete shit.

No width and length are different.

I’m surprised Maximum Motorsports or someone else hasn’t picked up that finished IRS for the S197 and re-manufactured it as a kit.
